Suggester says: It is amazing how macro photography can show us the unseen beauty of the micro world, like it was somewhere else, in another place, another world. The colors and the composition is fascinating on this almost surrealistic shot! ( Suggested by oO-Rein-Oo and Featured by hellfirediva )

Awesome photo, love the colours and those look like honey mushrooms to me. How did you get the mantis to pose to nicely? *wondering*

it took sometime, but after they fell safe and comfortable the stay in the same place, and if you dangle your finger in front of them, they tend to lift their arms trying to climb them
same trick as here.. (:

Thanks for the tip- not sure if I'd be daring enough to dangle my fingers in front of it (if I managed to find one), but I get the idea.
Sorry it took me a month to reply... I haven't been here for a while, and still have a lot of learning to do :)
I love your mystical theme! It's very inspiring!

Good. I'm not the only one who thought those were male reproductive organs.
The process for choosing Daily Deviations has turned into something similar to American Idol: not chosen for their quality or talent, but merely for the amusement of others.
(Not really, I'm just applying that to this photo, which is funnier than it is good. I got a good laugh out of it. I think that's all that matters, is how it makes you feel, right?)

Although i like your idea, i wouldn't say this is 'lesser' quality, it's actually top of the line photography and talent to capture an image like this. The artist is definitely gifted and talented to capture an image of something so tiny like this but feels so big.

I agree that the macro is very good. It's very clear and vibrant and well done I have to admit, but I guess I was referring more to the overall image; the strange background that looks slightly sloppily photoshopped IMO. Not that I could do any better, props for a great job. I just find it strange that a person with that kind of talent only did this. It's still good, just not enough "wow" in it I guess for what I thought a DD required. I could be completely wrong, that's just what came to mind.

If you read the description, this was not photoshopped or manipulated at all (you can tell just below where it says favs, that it tells what camera is used, that means it was not altered in photoshop).

That was the artist/photographer's ability to bend the artificial light in his photo, meaning everything that you see is captured with his camera, nothing is photoshopped :D That's the beauty of the piece and why it was chosen. Because it's actually not a photo manipulation at all  that's the magic behind it

As the kind people above me noted, this is a real photo and not a manipulation, but not because of the Exif - those can be easily faked.. (:

you can see more from that series in here [link]

maybe it will convince your some more ;)

Now some of those other photos are amazing, I really like them. They're surreal. You're a much better photographer than me, but I guess I would have preffered to see one of those other ones here. :\ Guess it's just my taste.

I actually clicked on this picture because I thought, WHY IS SOMETHING SO INAPPROPIATE AND UN-CENSORED GETTING A DD?! WHAT IS THIS?!
...but now I realize it's just mushrooms, and it's so beautiful the way you used the artificial lighting. I seriously thought it was manipulated, but wow! This is very good, just amazing. Great work, and sorry for mistaking your picture for something else from the thumb nail. ><
